Terminal (O Estado do Mundo)

Description

Terminal (O Estado do Mundo) [Terminal (The State of the World)] is set in a desolate space, occupied solely by huge roots that have engulfed everything else. Four actors and two musicians people this terminal: an end of the line for humanity, or an interface to the future? None of them knows it for sure, but all do what they can to postpone the resolution by telling their stories. In the eyes of the Formiga Atómica company we are already living in catastrophic times, “that shameless human celebration while everything burns”. However, Terminal is a play about hope as a possibility. Part 2 of a diptych that began in 2021 with O Estado do Mundo (Quando Acordas) [The State of the World (When You Wake Up)], this production is the end result of a long process of research in Portugal and France. What can we do when the end of the world is in sight? What can theatre still give us? To Inês Barahona and Miguel Fragata, the climate crisis is also a crisis of the imagination. Their Terminal mirrors our inaction, while proposing the collective invention of a new cosmogony.
