Teatro Experimental do Porto and ASSéDIO join forces to celebrate the 50th anniversary of PREC, the Ongoing Revolutionary Process (1974-75). As grandes comemorações… [The grand near-official commemorations of the historical period commonly known as PREC] revisits some of the main moments, figures and controversies of PREC, with a view to discussing and negating the notion that this was a period marked by chaos and ideological excesses. To achieve that, they created a Popular Festivities Committee, a group of artists and scholars tasked with conceiving the overarching PRECformative structure and setting down the celebration’s guidelines. We can find the model for these Commemorations in Augusto Boal’s “Opinion Fairs”, collective creations defined by the joyous conviviality between art forms and ruled by an intermezzo-like, farcical and absurd approach. “This show is not impartial”, warns the Festivities Committee. “In fact, it is intimately partial. A left-wing, anti-reactionary and anti-fascist creation that is, for that very reason, celebratory, festive and popular.”
