Prometheus ’22

Description

According to Gábor Tompa, Prometheus ‘22 is intended as a meditation on the condition of intellectuals in the 21st century. In the digitised and manipulated universe of social networks and the media, truth is relativised, dialogue becomes almost impossible and hate speech becomes a daily occurrence. The role of intellectuals – scientists, doctors, artists – is now not only more difficult, but entails greater responsibility: to look at the world objectively and transmit knowledge to others, even at the risk of persecution, as it happened to Prometheus in Greek mythology when he stole fire from the gods and gave it to mortals. In a stage set evocative of a huge laboratory or nuclear power plant, where individuals are subjected to all sorts of experiments to manipulate them, the titan who interceded for humanity suffers torment and humiliation. Prometheus ‘22 approaches the myth via this paradoxical connection with the human species, to explore its relevance to the contemporary world.
